# Build the company organization chart

Organization units make up the project’s company organization chart. See [Company, offices and workers](/company-offices-and-workers/#the-company-organization-chart).

You need the manager role on the project.

## Prepare the company roles

[Section titled “Prepare the company roles”](#prepare-the-company-roles)

Each person enters a unit with a company role, so the roles are created first.

1. Open the project and, in the **Organization chart** menu, choose **Company roles**.
2. Click **New**, enter the role’s **Name**, which is required, and the **Code** and **Description** if needed, then save.
3. Repeat for each role you will use, for example _Manager_, _Operator_, _Coordinator_.

When a role is selected, the **People** tab lists who holds it across the units.

## Create the units

[Section titled “Create the units”](#create-the-units)

1. In the **Organization chart** menu, choose **Organization units**. The tree of units appears on the left.
2. In the tree, select the unit under which to create the new one. For a top-level unit, select the root, shown as **/**.
3. Open the **New** menu and choose **New organization unit**.
4. Enter the **Name**, which is required, and the **Code** and **Description** if needed, then save.

To move a unit under another, select it and use **Move**. **Rename** changes its name.

## Place the people

[Section titled “Place the people”](#place-the-people)

1. Select the unit in the tree.
2. Open the **New** menu and choose **Add person**.
3. Choose the **Person** and their **Company role**, then save.

The same person can be in several units, or in the same unit with different roles. They cannot appear twice in the same unit with the same role.

A person’s units can also be seen from their record, under **Organization units**, from which they can be placed in another unit.
