# Where attachments live

Attachments can be placed on several items. Choosing the right one is what makes a document findable later — and, more importantly, what keeps it from looking like it applies to people it does not concern.

Item

What belongs there

**Action**

what concerns the obligation itself: the material to deliver, a test to administer, the technical sheet of a machine, the text of a procedure — see [Attach files to an action](/prevention-and-protection/attach-files)

**Person**

what belongs to that individual: a certificate they obtained, an identity document

**Certificate**

the original document issued by a third party, and the forms completed on issuing

**Session date**

the completed attendance register — see [Fill in a form during an activity](/forms/fill-in-a-form)

**Supplier**

the supplier’s own documentation

**Approval**

the certificate submitted for validation — see [The Approvals interface](/suppliers/approvals/interface)

**Event**

photographs and documents completing the report of an [injury or a near miss](/incidents/)

On every one of these, attaching means either uploading a new file or linking one already in the archive — see [Files and attachments](/files-and-attachments/).
