# Maintenance

Maintenance keeps track of the scheduled servicing of equipment, environments and PPE.

It is a [prevention and protection action](/prevention-and-protection/), so it follows the common cycle. What changes is the vocabulary — plans and orders — and the recipient, which here is not a person.

## Plans and orders

[Section titled “Plans and orders”](#plans-and-orders)

- A **plan** defines the maintenance need: this equipment must be serviced at this interval.
- An **order** is one intervention on a date.

## The recipient is not a person

[Section titled “The recipient is not a person”](#the-recipient-is-not-a-person)

This is what sets maintenance apart from the other types: the recipient is **a thing**, not someone. A plan can concern a single piece of equipment — an overhead crane — or a homogeneous group of them — the lifts. The items are the ones registered in the material resources of the office.

Everything else follows from this. The roles of Manager, Assignee and Observer still identify people, but they are the people responsible for the work, not the people subject to it.

## The certificate

[Section titled “The certificate”](#the-certificate)

The certificate attests that the intervention was carried out, and its expiry sets when the next one is due.

## What to do here

[Section titled “What to do here”](#what-to-do-here)

The procedures are the common ones: [create the plan](/prevention-and-protection/create-an-action) · [add the equipment](/prevention-and-protection/add-recipients) · [schedule an order](/prevention-and-protection/schedule-a-session) · [record the outcome](/prevention-and-protection/record-the-outcome) · [issue the certificates](/prevention-and-protection/issue-a-certificate).
