# Add a workplace, equipment or a substance

Workplaces, equipment and substances are added in the same way. See [Material resources](/material-resources/) for how the types differ.

You need the manager role on the office or on the **Maintenance** area (see [Office groups](/users-and-permissions/groups/office)).

## Add a resource from scratch

[Section titled “Add a resource from scratch”](#add-a-resource-from-scratch)

1. Open the office and, in the **Material resources** menu, choose **Workplaces**, **Equipment** or **Substances**.
2. In the toolbar, open the **New** menu and choose **New**.
3. Fill in the fields. **Name** is required; the others depend on the type:
    -   workplace: **Code**, **Description** and **Category** (for example _Offices_, _Laboratories_, _Support environments_);
    -   equipment: **Code**, **Serial**, **Vendor**, **Model**, **Description** and **Category**, from a list of equipment types (front loaders, scaffolding, pressure equipment, fire-fighting devices, vehicles and others);
    -   substance: **Code** and **Description**.
4. Click the **Save** icon (a floppy disk).

The resource appears in the list. When it is selected, the lower part of the window shows its tabs: **Details**, **Attributes**, **People**, **Requests**, **Certificates**, **Event** and **Attachments**.

## Copy a resource from another office or from a template

[Section titled “Copy a resource from another office or from a template”](#copy-a-resource-from-another-office-or-from-a-template)

The **New** menu offers two more items:

-   **Copy from …** copies one or more resources from another office or project you have access to;
- **Create from template** copies them from the template projects of 4HSE or of your partner, which can be filtered by country.

Both open a wizard: see [Copy an element](/copy-templates-and-import/copy-an-element).

## Complete the resource’s record

[Section titled “Complete the resource’s record”](#complete-the-resources-record)

After saving, from the resource’s tabs:

-   in **Attributes** you add data with a unit of measure: see [Add an attribute](/material-resources/attributes);
-   in **People** you link the workers who use it;
-   in **Requests** you link the actions the resource requires, for example a maintenance plan: see [Link the resources that require an action](/prevention-and-protection/link-resources);
- in **Attachments** you upload the resource’s files, such as the manual or the safety data sheet.
