# Create the safety roles of an office

Roles are defined office by office. See [Safety roles](/safety-roles/).

You need the manager role on the office (see [Office groups](/users-and-permissions/groups/office)).

## Start from a template

[Section titled “Start from a template”](#start-from-a-template)

The quickest way for a new office.

1. Open the office and choose **Safety org. chart** from the menu.
2. In the toolbar, open the **New** menu and choose **Create from template**.
3. Choose the roles from the templates of 4HSE or of your partner, which can be filtered by country, and confirm.

## Copy from another office

[Section titled “Copy from another office”](#copy-from-another-office)

With **New → Copy from …** you copy the roles already defined in another office you have access to. See [Copy an element](/copy-templates-and-import/copy-an-element).

## Create a role from scratch

[Section titled “Create a role from scratch”](#create-a-role-from-scratch)

1. Open the **New** menu and choose **New**.
2. Enter the **Name**, which is required, and the **Code** if needed.
3. In **Description**, write the role’s duties: this is the text that will appear in the appointment letter.
4. Click the **Save** icon (a floppy disk).

## Complete the role

[Section titled “Complete the role”](#complete-the-role)

When a role is selected, the lower part of the window shows its tabs:

-   **People**: who holds it (see [Assign a safety role](/safety-roles/assign-a-role));
-   **Certificates**: the certificates issued for the role;
-   **Actions**: the prevention actions the role requires, linked with **New**;
-   **Attachments**: the role’s documents.
