# Create a user

There is no central list where users are created. You add a user where they need to work, by putting their email in a group of that entity: a **project**, an **office**, a **person**, a **supplier** or the **multi-company panel**. The permissions they get depend on where you added them.

1. Go to the **Administration** menu of the entity and select **Permissions**.
2. Open the **Groups** sub-menu. It lists the groups available for that entity.
3. Select the group the user belongs in — for example `admin`, `manager`, `user`.
4. In the **Details** section, click **new** and enter the user’s email address.

The same person can be added to groups of several entities. To change what they can do later, move them between groups: see [Set permissions](/users-and-permissions/set-permissions).

## The three statuses

[Section titled “The three statuses”](#the-three-statuses)

The system tracks each user’s status with a coloured badge.

Status

Meaning

**Unknown**

Initial state: the email address is not registered in the system yet.

**Pending**

The user has been invited to collaborate and has not completed their first login.

**Active**

The user has logged in at least once and can use the system fully.

A user stays **Pending** until the first login, not until the invitation is sent or opened. This is why a user can remain Pending for a long time without anything being wrong with the configuration — and why re-adding them does not help: see [Unblock a user stuck in Pending](/users-and-permissions/unblock-pending-user).
