Worker groups

A worker is not managed only as an individual: they do a job and share exposures with their colleagues. 4HSE represents these groupings in two ways.

  • A job is a person’s professional role: forklift driver, welder, office clerk.
  • A homogeneous group brings together workers exposed to similar risks, whatever their job: for example everyone working in the paint shop.

Jobs and homogeneous groups belong to an office, and are found in the office’s Human resources menu. A person can belong to several jobs and several homogeneous groups.

They are not the same as permission groups, which decide what a user can do in 4HSE (see The permission system), nor as the units of the company organization chart, which describe the company’s departments (see Company, offices and workers).

For 4HSE, jobs and homogeneous groups are the same kind of object as work phases: they have the same fields and the same tabs, and are created in the same way. Work phases, however, describe activities rather than workers, and are documented in Risk assessment.

The risk aggregator decides where the assessment happens

Section titled “The risk aggregator decides where the assessment happens”

Work phases, jobs and homogeneous groups can all hold risks, but in a project the assessment takes place on only one of the three: the one chosen as risk aggregator. Only that type has the Dangers, Risks and Actions tabs. If the aggregator is the job, risks are assessed on jobs; work phases and homogeneous groups remain groupings of people and resources.

In a person’s record, the risks listed are those of every group they belong to.

On the aggregator, the Actions tab lists the prevention actions the group requires: a course, a medical examination, a PPE item. 4HSE does not enrol the group’s members in these actions automatically: it proposes the enrolments as suggestions, on the dashboards and in the Suggestions tab of the scheduler. The suggestions are updated when the required actions or the people in the group change.
